macy's is only a few blocks away, and the riverside only a few beyond that. but i never considered actually going to see the fireworks "extravaganza." i was happy to celebrate with some white wine and ice cream sandwiches. but i did wonder how other "non-fireworkers" might spend the independence evening, so i zipped over to bryant park and times square to check the scene. it seemed very much like the usual: summer movie mondays in bryant park (cartoons, followed by one flew over the cuckoo's nest) a stop for smoky, charred kebob or dog (i probably should have waited to shower and shampoo my hair. blech), the usual times square hubbub. there was the intermittent crack-boom of fireworks, but they were mostly invisible to the eye.
