morning (on the eve)

spring (SHOES) we are waiting for you!

Barbara Bui

Today is the last day of 2010, I should make my list of good purposes but I prefer thinking and writing about...SHOES! I'm optimistic and I already want to speak about spring.
The next spring we'll wear sculptured wedges by Prada, Alexander McQueen, Rodarte, wood stilettos by Calvin Klein and rope shoes by Dior!
And finally there're the originals designers who always create something new and different such as Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo!
I was fascinated by the amount of colors on the catwalks...wonderful!
I don't like them all because I'm not a wedges fan...anyway here're the pictures!
Have a good last day of 2010!

before the firestorm

i personally cannot complain about the christmas weekend blizzard.

i don't have a car.
i don't need the subway or bus to get to work.
i wasn't stranded anywhere.

and: we have the best team at our condo--by 10am on monday they'd shoveled clean the widest swath of sidewalk in all of murray hill.

but it's hard
not to be outraged after reading and hearing about conditions in other parts of the city, as a result of misjudgment and inaction at the local level.

(meanwhile, jersey knew what to do.)

***
here are a few shots from the very first afternoon, before the city got all stomped on and sloppy, and well before the effect of bloomberg & co's snafu was fully evident.

it was pretty, especially in madison square park...

the third eye: photos

One of my biggest passion is photography, I never attended courses, I only let myself be inspired from every detail, color or light...I received 75-300 mm macro zoom for my b-day at the beginning of the month and now I'm doing experiments with it..I'll show you soon some shots.
But now you're going to see some random photos taken from my favourites :)
Hope you like

Fashion Icon: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger is an actress from Germany and she has become famous thank to his role as Helena in Troy. She's also a fashion model and it can explain why she have a so huge dress sense!
I have always admired she because of her pure beauty and looking at the photos I could see that her ways to dress are a reflection of her simplicity. She probably knows how much she's beautiful and so she can wear any type of cloth because she'll seem always gorgeous! I adore her way to wear Chanel bag as a shoulder bag because I find it elegant but at the same time casual. She loves menswear and comfy clothes and she takes very little to be chic even in the most unthinkable moments of the day.
Finally I noted that she plays with her hair, changing often hairstyle wearing plaits or chignons.
In a word: AMAZING!

read a good poem: voyage

l'evasion de rochefort. edouard manet (1832-1884). circa 1881. oil on canvas.

***

I feel as if we opened a book about great ocean voyages
and found ourselves on a great ocean voyage:
sailing through December, around the horn of Christmas
and into the January Sea, and sailing on and on

in a novel without a moral but one in which
all the characters who died in the middle chapters
make the sunsets near the book's end more beautiful.

—And someone is spreading a map upon a table,
and someone is hanging a lantern from the stern,
and someone else says, "I'm only sorry
that I forgot my blue parka; It's turning cold."

Sunset like a burning wagon train
Sunrise like a dish of cantaloupe
Clouds like two armies clashing in the sky;
Icebergs and tropical storms,
That's the kind of thing that happens on our ocean voyage—

And in one of the chapters I was blinded by love
And in another, anger made us sick like swallowed glass
& I lay in my bunk and slept for so long,

I forgot about the ocean,
Which all the time was going by, right there, outside my cabin window.

And the sides of the ship were green as money,
and the water made a sound like memory when we sailed.

Then it was summer. Under the constellation of the swan,
under the constellation of the horse.

At night we consoled ourselves
By discussing the meaning of homesickness.
But there was no home to go home to.
There was no getting around the ocean.
We had to go on finding out the story
by pushing into it—

The sea was no longer a metaphor.
The book was no longer a book.
That was the plot.
That was our marvelous punishment.

Men or Women?!

The woman smoking, launched in the '70s by Yves Saint Laurent, still rages on the catwalks. I examined all the photos of the spring/summer 2011 collections and I selected some examples of menswear for women. I personally love menswear, I find it so chic and sensual and we can customize it with so many details which could make the smoking more elegant than a simple dress! Moreover I adore blazers of every shape and color and I think that wearing them makes an ordinary look always chic!

snow day: morning walk

i tuned in to the local morning news for the hour or so it took for me to have coffee and mentally brace myself for a walk to work in the -2 windchill. blizzard coverage is really no more informative than accuweather or mta sites, is it? and it's gets stale pretty quick what with the studio anchors "sending it out," again and again, to the same poor reporters stalking the same corner for "stranded stories" and "intrepid tourist tales." not sure why we need hours and hours of that kind of coverage but for a little while, i liked the soundtrack of it, essentially unchanged from the "old days" when we had to rely on AM radio and TV to find out about school closings. i daydreamed for some scrolling text that would say all small businesses in manhattan are closed...take off those ridiculous winter boots. but i didn't really mind having to go into work. i figured it would be a light day. and it would at least get me out of the house to snap a few photos.

not too much action on park avenue. but here's what i saw:

i appreciate wanting to protect your feet (cold, wet toes equals no fun) but this plastic bag technique virtually ensures that this guy's gonna bite it. hard. and then he's cold and wet, bottom down...

not many grown-ups would look so cute in that hat.

Lulu Guinness

Here I am, as anticipated, to speak about the most unusual and unique handbags/clutches in my opinion. I did a long research to find the best and I selected the ones that touched my heart at first sight. Surely there will be others that I could not find, but in the meantime let's enjoy these...I'd like to have them all!
